Shelby and I were both HR interns at L.L.Bean, tasked with developing a strategy for recruiting a more diverse workforce in L.L.Bean's new store in Sarasota, FL. This was a complex task, and I had doubt as to whether we were capable of developing such a strategy. I have had the pleasure of working with Shelby as our Schiller Institute’s Marketing and Event Planning Assistant during the 2024-2025 academic year. Though Shelby’s main focus is our social media, she contributes to a wide range of projects for the Institute and has proven to be an invaluable asset to our team from the moment she started working. She has done an incredible job taking our social media presence to the next level. In the first couple weeks on the job, she created an impressive, well-organized and thought-out content calendar for the academic year as well as conceptualized and brought to life a social media series for the Institute. Given that the Institute is still relatively new (~5 years), Shelby has also helped strengthen our brand image, creating a branding kit that she has helped teach our other Marketing and Event Planning Assistants how to use. Additionally, she has designed eye-catching posters, taken high quality photos, and brainstormed and recommended a name for a new student-facing newsletter.

When I met Shelby on the first day of class in my Consumer Insights course last semester, I knew that she would be a valuable part of our classroom community. Shelby brought her creativity, strong communication skills, and analytical strength to the class each week, but I saw these skills shine the most during our semester-long group research project.
Shelby emerged as a leader within her team immediately, and I was impressed not only by her quantitative analytical abilities, but by her strength in working with her teammates. Shelby was able to to quickly learn and apply statistical analytical skills working with the data collected for this project, and also worked effectively with her teammates to bring the full analysis together. The results were insightful and action-oriented recommendations for the brand they were researching.

Shelby frequented my Strategic Marketing class in the 2023-24 academic year and throughout that time, Shelby proved to be an outstanding student. She stood out for her engagement, interest, friendliness, and valuable contributions in class. Shelby is organised, pro-active, responsible and committed and it was a pleasure having her in class as she contributed to a lively and stimulating academic environment. The module required students to develop a strategic marketing plan for a struggling brand - Shelby chose The Body Shop. As expected, Shelby delivered an extensive and excellent piece of work, where she had to conduct secondary data research, critically combine theory and practice, and make informed recommendations for the case company. The work presented by Shelby demonstrated not only academic excellence in the specific subject but also great research, communication, and organisation skills, and I’m sure she’ll do great in whatever she sets her mind to.
I had the pleasure of having Shelby in three of my courses at Boston College in the Communication department: Social Media, Influencer Culture, and Spiritual but Not Religious Culture.
